just got off the phone with my sister, and received the latest scoop on the nephews… and this one was too funny not to share:

So my 2nd grade nephew, James, has a new project in school… Each student has to choose a random word and make a costume that represents the word… at the end of the month, the whole school will have a parade of all the “word”costumes… then two winners from each grade will be chosen…

Anyhow, he’s been trying really hard to pick a word — the perfect word — but is just stomped… he’s been researching… looking through dictionaries… and science books… well, sifting through one of his mama’s science books — he came across a really funny word — “gluteus maximus”… which of course had the pronunciation… the definition… and, I imagine, some kind of diagram…

Well, he just fell in love with saying this word… he thought it was just the funniest thing to say… and for 3 days, he trotted around the house in various voices — saying his favorite new word…”GLU! Teus! MAXimus!”… he told his mama it actually sounded like — a strong word — like a leader’s name… you know, like “Optimus Prime”… then he thought that the name sounded like the ancient Roman names… with Maximus! He said, “didn’t they know that’s part of a word — that means {butt}?!”. Both laughing at his observation… (And yes, apparently he has studied Ancient Roman History already)

Then his mama jokingly asked him if that was the word he was going to pick for his costume… he said,”OH NO! I would get kicked out of school!” And they shared a good laugh… and my sister and I did too as she told me the story…

And this is my (oh so clever) little 8 year old nephew… LOVE him! (I’ll let you know what word he finally picks for his costume 😉
